How does Magnus get paid?
Three models: (1) Flat sourcing fee per project (typical for first engagement) — clear cost, predictable budget. (2) Monthly retainer for ongoing work — flat fee covering RFQs, audits, account management. (3) Cost-plus on production — transparent supplier price plus Magnus margin. We prefer the retainer model for long-term clients because it aligns our incentives with your savings, not your transaction volume.
What information do you need to start?
Minimum: drawings (PDF, STEP, IGES, or hand sketches), target annual quantity, destination country, quality/certification requirements, target lead time. Helpful but optional: current supplier pricing for benchmarking, your existing landed cost, list of must-have certifications. Magnus can also handle reverse-engineering from competitor parts if drawings aren't available.
How do you handle supplier exclusivity?
By default, Magnus suppliers are NOT exclusive — they can take orders from other Magnus clients and direct buyers. This keeps their factory utilised and prices competitive. For sensitive programmes, we can negotiate exclusivity arrangements (typically 12-36 months) for an exclusivity premium. About 15% of Magnus clients opt for exclusive supplier arrangements.
What happens if a supplier underperforms?
Magnus owns supplier management — that's the whole point. If a supplier underperforms (quality, delivery, communication), we identify the issue, drive corrective action, and if needed transition production to a backup supplier. We always maintain at least one qualified backup per critical part. Your contract is with Magnus, not the supplier, so transitions are seamless for you.
